Battersea, a novel.

Battersea, a novel by William Rainey

The name of my first novel is ‘Battersea’ and I’m pleased with the results. I have written a few short stories and plotted a few novels but I have spent time and effort to create a polished end product.

Synopsis: The story covers a period from 1938 to 2010.

On the eve of the second world war, two unremarkable people meet and fall in love, they marry and set up their life in a small house in Battersea; they suffer the ills faced by all Londoners when faced with the horrors of war.

The pair have a baby boy placed in their care during distressing circumstances and eventually bear a son of their own.

The story continues as the boys grow up; when they reach adulthood during the ‘Swinging Sixties’ in London, they realise they have feelings for each other.

The story details their lives as they emigrate to Australia after the deaths of their parents, their successes and failures and their eventual return to their roots in London and a very changed Battersea.

The story also highlights the difference between their parents’ world and lifestyle and the different opportunities the two men have in their life.

My second novel is almost complete, I’ll finish and then edit as soon as I can tear myself away from sewing.

My second novel, all about sexual secrets and the consequences of living a lie…
